Control file is a binary file and minimun number of control files required for a database is one.
Oracle scans the content of the control file in the MOUNT stage.
Oracle continuously updates the control file during the operations of the database.
Control file contains the following information :
1.Name of the database
2.Timestamp when the database was created
3.Names of the Tablespaces
4.Names and locations of the datafiles.
5.CheckPoint information
6.Log Sequence Number
7.RMAN Backup information .....etc.....
