Introduction Basics

.In a single server we can have multiple oracle instances(depending on available resources).

.Each database has its own set of CRD files.

.Each database has to be opened/started independantly.

.When we start a database, it means that we are starting an instance.

.When multiple instances are running in a server ment for different databases, each instance will have its own set of background processes and memory structures.

.Two databases have nothing in common although they are running on the same server.

.If DBA decides to shutdown the database, only that particular instance will come down(will not effect the other instances which are running).

.In a single server we can maintain multiple oracle versions.
